The fairness doctrine is anything but fair. How can the United States even look at something as unconstitutional as the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine is nothing more than a violation of the First Amendment. What the Fairness Doctrine says is that their must be equal opportunity for opposing viewpoints over public media sources. Basically, if there is a liberal show, there must be a conservative show. This "Fairness Doctrine" was introduced by liberals who felt their viewpoints weren't being heard over the radio, that radio focused on conservative shows. This doctrine was first introduced in 1949 in afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of opposing viewpoints of public importance. In 1987 it was overturned because despite it's purpose, it didn't create discussion on controversial issues and was thought to violate the First Amendment.
There are bills in both houses of Congress to codify the 1949 act and make it law. This would give the government the right to censorship. Supporters of the bill claim it will help create debate from both sides of the issue.
Send notes to your Congressmen and tell them they better not vote for censorship, they must vote against the Fairness Doctrine. Our country was founded on Free Speech, in fact it's our First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Censorship in any form must not be allowed!
