Here is a copy of a letter that I sent to Sen. Reid. Please feel free to copy it and send it to your Senators and Representatives. Congress.org is a very simple and easy way to write to your Congressman.
Health care reform is to important to be rushed by one giant bill. It should be broken down, start with tort reform and eliminating the fraud and abuse in the existing programs. Why won't you post the bill online for everyone to see? What are you trying to hide in the bill? Reports say that 34 million people will be left without insurance and that premiums will continue to skyrocket. President Obama campaigned on transparency in government, not only are you hiding the bill (that doesn't include any legislative language) but you want to backdoor it by attaching it to previously passed bills. Members of Congress are complaining that the bill is to long and complex to be read and understood. How can anyone in good conscience vote to approve anything without reading and understanding what they are approving? That's how members of Congress look out for the best interests of their constituents? The CBO can not even totally evaluate the bill because the bill's not even written. Supposedly, the health care reform is so important and must be done quickly, but the bill doesn't take effect until 2013 but the President wants it on his desk by the end of the year.
I understand that there needs to be reform to the health care industry but only attacking the insurance companies and not the trial lawyers or the waste and abuse in the current systems seems half hearted. A public option will lead into a single payer system when you tax all the private insurance companies and the private insurance policies.
I hope you do not resort to the "nuclear option" or passing a "vapor bill" or attaching a "phantom amendment" to a previously passed bill.
